映画 Fukushima 50

先日原子力関係のフォーラムへの参加および通訳の仕事で日本に出張する機会がありました。そのときちょうど公開されていた映画が「Fukushima 50」です。門田隆将著のノンフィクション本「死の淵を見た男 - 吉田昌郎と福島第一原発」が原作になっています。原子力施設の廃止措置を通訳の専門分野の一つとし、原子炉建屋の中にも何度も入ったことのある私にとって、非常に見応えのある力作でした。
2011年3月11日の巨大津波により破壊された福島第一原子力発電所。原子炉爆発と言う最悪の事態を防ぐため、自らの生命の危険を顧みず線量の高い現地にとどまって危険な作業を続け被害の拡大を食い止めた前線の作業員・エンジニアたちがいたことを、世界中の人たちに知って頂きたいです。

I was fortunate enough to travel to Japan last month to attend a nuclear industry's forum and to interprete at a nuclear decomissioning workshop. While in Japan, this new film based on Ryusho Kadota's non-fiction book "On the Brink: The Inside Story of Fukushima Daiichi" was being shown in cinemas across Japan. It is a stroy of 50 (67 in the book) front-line workers who risked their lives to contain damage at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
For someone who is perticularly interested in the nuclear industry and have been inside of nuclear reactor buildings more than several times as an interpreter, this film means a lot. I hope it will reach cinemas outside of Japan.
