コロナで仕事は全てキャンセル。だから時間を有効活用中！
世界中のフリーランスワーカーが収入の消滅の危機に瀕している状況かと思います。しかし伝染病の流行は個々の力でどうなるものでもありませんので、私は今突然たっぷり与えられた時間を有効に使っています。
まずやるべきことは、自分の専門分野の知識強化。私の場合は原子力施設の廃止措置、エネルギー、金融です。
しかしそれだけではありません、普段出張続きでほとんど家にいない私としては、子供たちと過ごせる時間がとても貴重です。現在、日本同様英国でも全国の学校が閉鎖されており、子供たちは自宅でオンライン授業を受けています。このチャンスを生かすため、私は昔取った杵柄のバレーボールを次女に教えています。ついでに人気バレーマンガの「ハイキュー」も紹介して、普段日本語の本を読まない次女の読書欲を掻き立てることにも成功しています。
私は小学生時代にテレビで「アタックナンバーワン」というバレーアニメを見てバレーボールに一目惚れしました。中学生時代はバレー部のキャプテンとして、高校時代は全国大会レベルのチームのマネージャーとして、6年間バレーに青春を捧げました。この年になってもまだパスやレシーブができるのには自分でも驚いています。そして今でも心からバレーボールを愛しています。
ここ数年はサッカーやラグビーの大きなイベントにも通訳者として関わらせて頂く機会を得て、「スポーツは世界を救える」と誇張抜きに信じています。今後はバレーボールの世界にも通訳者として関わっていけたらなと願っています。

I am enjoying the extra time given by corona
I am aware that many many people across the globe are facing the loss of income. Being a freelance interpreter, I am one of those people whose work has dried up due to the Corona virus
crisis, That means I now have plenty of time to catch up with things I have had no time so far thanks to my busy work schedule.
One of those things is, obviously, to strengthen and broaden my knowledge in my speciality areas such as nuclear decommissioning, energy and finance by reading specialised books.
Another is to spend time with my children who are at home as all the schools in the UK are now closed. Actually, I am teaching my daughter how to play volleyball. Volleyball is my first love in sports and I dedicated 6 years of my youth to it, first as the captain of my junior-high volleyball team and later as the team manager of my high school team which competed at the national level. Admittedly, it was a long time ago, but your muscle memory dies hard.
In addition, I am succeeding in instilling in my daughter an interest in reading Japanese comic books by introducing a popular volleyball-themed manga (pictured).
I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world thanks to my work, and getting involved in major football and rugby events as an interpreter in the last several years made me re-realise that sports can really save the world. So, I am very happy that I have been reunited with my very first love in sports that is volleyball. I would dare say few other Japanese interpreters know more about volleyball and what it takes to compete at the national level than myself.
